3 John

Chapter 1

1 THE elder, to the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 Our beloved, I pray above all things, that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified concerning the truth that is in you, even as you live a true life.

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children follow the truth.

5 Our beloved, you do faithfully that which you do to the brethren, especially to those who are strangers;

6 Who have borne witness concerning your love before the whole church: for the good things which you have done for them by supplying their needs, as is pleasing to God,

7 Because they have gone forth for his name's sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.

8 We, therefore, ought to welcome such, so that we may be fellow helpers to the truth.

9 I wrote to the church, that Di-ot're-phes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, would not receive us.

10 Therefore, if I come, I will mention the things which he did, gossiping against us with malicious words: and not content with this, he not only did not receive the brethren, but also forbade those who would like to receive them, and cast them out of the church.

11 Our beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God: but he who does evil has not seen God.

12 De-me'tri-us has good report of all men, and of the church, and of the truth itself: yea, we also testify for him; and we know that our testimony is true.

13 I had many things to write, but I do not want to write them to you with ink and pen:

14 But I trust I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face.

5 Mein Lieber27, du2038 tust4160 treulich4103, was1437 du tust an1519 den Brüdern80 und2532 Gästen3581,

7 Denn1063 um5228 seines Namens willen3686 sind sie846 ausgezogen1831 und haben von5228 den575 Heiden1484 nichts3367 genommen2983.

9 Ich habe der3588 Gemeinde1577 geschrieben1125; aber235 Diotrephes1361, der unter ihnen846 will5383 hochgehalten sein, nimmt1926 uns2248 nicht3756 an.

10 Darum, wenn1437 ich5124 komme2064, will1014 ich ihn erinnern5279 seiner Werke2041, die3739 er846 tut4160, und2532 plaudert5396 mit bösen4190 Worten3056 wider uns2248 und2532 lässet sich an1537 dem5125 nicht3361 genügen714. 13 Ich hatte2192 viel4183 zu schreiben1125; aber1223 ich wollte2309 nicht3756 mit2532 Tinte3188 und235 Feder2563 an dich4671 schreiben1125.

14 Ich hoffe1679 aber1161, dich4571 bald2112 zu4314 sehen1492, so2532 wollen wir mündlich4750 miteinander reden2980.
